KELSEY MONTAGUE INSTALLS NEW MURAL AT VERTIS GREEN HILLS

Uncategorized

Southern Land Company is passionate about creating beautiful places that inspire people and foster meaningful relationships, which is why a mural felt so fitting for our Vertis Green Hills community. September 28, 2020, we welcomed artist Kelsey Montague, well-known for the popular “butterfly wings” mural in The Gulch, to create the new mural at Vertis Green Hills.

The approximately 15×8-foot mural is of a tree with a swing, a motif that represents life, green spaces and our commitment to horticulture and inviting outdoor spaces. The mural was created as a selfie station where visitors can “sit” in the aforementioned swing featuring two popular hashtags which aim to have people share what inspires them in their lives, #WhatLiftsYou and #LiveVertis.

“We have a wonderful courtyard and Plaza at Vertis where people often gather, and the tree mural seemed like a perfect fit for the spirit of the area,” said Tim Downey, CEO of Southern Land Company. “Kelsey is an amazing artist who is really admired here, and she did a wonderful job. We hope people enjoy it as much as we do.”

“The tree and the swing will give people a chance to interact with the art, and hopefully inspire people to share positive messages,” adds artist, Kelsey Montague. “We chose a tree because it’s whimsical and organic and has a component of growth. That’s very much Nashville — it’s growing, [and] there’s so much creativity and talent here. I wanted to capture that magic.”

The Vertis Green Hills apartment community is located at the corner of Hillsboro Pike and Richard Jones Road. Our community also includes Southern Land Company headquarters, four restaurants, health and wellness retail outlets, and courtyards connecting the buildings. The new mural is located in the middle of the vibrant community! Come by and see our new mural and share #WhatLiftsYou.

YOUR GUIDE TO THE ULTIMATE NASHVILLE STAYCATION

Uncategorized

If you need a break from your everyday life but can’t make an actual vacation happen, a Nashville staycation might do the trick. Music City is full of amazing cultural landmarks, outdoor spaces and culinary treats that make it easy to get away without leaving town. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or craving a rare kid-free night, here are our top tips for planning the ultimate staycation in Nashville.

The first step in planning your Nashville staycation is making sure that your home is a place where you can relax. You may not be staying at a fancy hotel, but you can make home feel as special and welcoming as one. Tidy up the living room, change your bedroom sheets, put out some candles, splurge on new throw pillows… whatever it takes to make home seem a little extra-special.

Nashville is home to a wide variety of wonderful restaurants, and you can help support local businesses during your Nashville staycation by dining out. Try an eatery that’s new to you, or head to your favorite spot. Or, if you’d prefer to stay in, order an indulgent pie from the best pizza joints in Nashville, a feel-good dish from True Food Kitchen, or hot chicken from the legendary Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack. Cooking at home can be fun, too. If you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, pick up some local produce and whip up a feast. Take your time preparing the meal as you listen to your favorite music and perhaps even sip a glass of wine.

Drive a few hours outside of the city and you can take a mini vacation without fighting crowds or struggling through airport security. Nashville is located close to several fun day trip destinations, from Cummins Falls’ 75-foot waterfall and swimming hole to the historic city of Franklin. Take a two-hour trip to Lookout Mountain, where the stunning views of Ruby Falls will leave you breathless.

Nashville has built a reputation as one of the more bike-friendly cities in the South, so exploring the city on two wheels has never been easier. Richland Creek Greenway has a trail that winds around a golf course, crosses a beautiful creek and is the perfect trail to ride before grabbing a beer at the outside bar at Edley’s BBQ. Belle Meade Boulevard’s bike path is lined with beautiful houses full of southern charm. The path ends at the entrance of Percy Warner Park, where you can cycle up to eleven more miles.

We all could use a little time to relax and unwind. Book an appointment at a local spa such as La Bella Famosa Spa, which offers massages, facials, body scrubs and body wraps. If you’d prefer to stay at home, draw yourself a bath, light some candles, grab your favorite book and settle in for a long soak. Splurge on a plush bath robe from Nordstrom to wrap yourself in luxury. Apply a face mask, paint your nails, and treat yourself to the pampering that you deserve.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful Nashville staycation! We’d love to hear how you became a temporary tourist in your own town. We’d be happy to meet you and show you around our luxury apartment homes. You can request more information about our community or schedule a tour online, or just give us a call at (615) 208-5609.

Hope to see you soon!

5 OF THE MOST EXCITING SPOTS FOR A NASHVILLE DATE NIGHT

Uncategorized

When was the last time you went on a truly memorable date? If you’re drawing a blank, take a look at this list of Nashville date night ideas. After all, even the most romantically inclined individuals need new ideas every once in awhile.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet dinner by the water or a long hike in the woods, you’ll find a special experience on the list below. Check it out!

Once the seasons change and the sun starts to hang around late into the evening, bring your significant other to the trails at the Warner Parks. Covering more than 3100 acres of woodland 9-miles from downtown Nashville, the Warner Parks have hiking trails, biking trails, dog parks, and scenic drives.

The trails are well-maintained and offer plenty of photo opportunities and the wooden bridges that criss-cross the creek that runs through the park. The Warner Parks are named after Edwin and Percy Warner, who owned the land before gifting it to the city. All we can say is thanks, guys!

Located inside the Green Hills Whole Foods, Salud! Is a culinary school that offers wine classes, demonstrations and beginner cooking classes. If you want to eat dinner after your class, we recommend doing the hands-on cooking class where you make a meal with a group under the guidance of a professional chef — and eat it afterwards!

The wine and cheese pairing is the date night Nashville couples choose when they’re looking for a relaxed, informative evening. You’ll get four different kinds of wine that go with four different cheeses, and they throw in a couple different types of meat for good measure. The wine and cheese experience comes with plenty of literature about the wine and cheese pairings, so you’ll leave this place fully prepared to act like a wine snob on your next night out.

You and your partner can finally live out your childhood dream of visiting Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory by touring the facilities at Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Co. Tours of offered on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and each tour last about 35 minutes. You and your date can learn how chocolate is made, hear the story of Olive & Sinclair, and enjoy plenty of chocolate samples in the process!

If you’re just looking for a quiet date night filled with seafood, fine wine and views of the Cumberland River, make a reservation at Blue Moon Waterfront Grille. This restaurant is tucked away in a marina just west of Sylvan Park, and it offers both indoor seating and outdoor dining on the covered patio.

Blue Moon is a casual restaurant, so don’t feel like you have to dress up for the occasion. As for the food, we recommend one of the shrimp dishes — tequila shrimp or coconut shrimp — and anything with a side of sweet potato fries. You’ll be able to watch boaters, paddle boarders and kayakers on the water while you eat, so avid people-watchers should definitely check this place out.

For a quintessential Nashville experience, drive out to Arrington Vineyards. This winery is owned by Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, and he’s partnered with Kip Summers — one of the state’s top winemakers — to create a one-of-a-kind wine country experience right here in Middle Tennessee.

With so many options out there, it’s easy to have an exciting, outside-the-box Nashville date night. If you decide to go to the cooking classes at Salud!, swing by Vertis Green Hills while you’re in the neighborhood! You can schedule a tour online or just drop-in — either way we’d love to give you a tour of our brand new community of luxury apartments!

THE MOST ADVENTUROUS DAY TRIPS FROM NASHVILLE

Uncategorized

We can all agree that the worst part of every vacation is the time you spend in an airport. In the hopes of helping more people avoid airports at all costs, we’ve put together a list of drivable day trips from Nashville. By getting a few hours outside of the city, you can take a mini vacation without having to deal with security, boarding passes or crowded planes.

Gas up your tank, leave the luggage at home, and visit one of the day trip destinations below!

The heat can be a little unbearable at times in Nashville, so next time that happens, we recommend embarking on the hour-and-a-half drive to Cummins Falls. This 75-foot waterfall drops straight into a swimming hole that you can get to if you’re willing to hike for a bit. The falls feature three levels of cascades, and you can take some breathtaking pictures from the shores of the swimming hole while you’re there.

Scenic day trips near Nashville don’t get much more scenic than Lookout Mountain. Located about 2 hours southeast of Nashville, this mountaintop offers stunning views of Ruby Falls — the largest underground waterfall in America. You can see the top of the falls from the lookout point, or venture into the country’s deepest commercial cave to see the falls from below!

Lookout Mountain is also the site of the Incline Railway — America’s steepest railroad. Visitors can pay to ride the mile-long rail — just don’t look down!

The phrase, “one of a kind” is tossed around a lot, but the Unclaimed Baggage Center is truly the only place like it in the country. As the name suggests, this massive warehouse is filled with all the airline baggage that’s been lost and never claimed. It’s all available for purchase at thrift shop prices, and the store is constantly being stocked with new unclaimed items.

The Unclaimed Baggage Center is located about 2 hours from Nashville in Scottsboro, Alabama. The massive, 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse even has a cafe inside, so you won’t need to leave for a lunch break!

The next stop on our list of day trips from Nashville is a must-visit for anyone interested in Civil War history. Franklin, TN was the site of the Battle of Franklin — one of the bloodiest battles of the war and one in which over 10,000 soldiers lost their lives. While in Franklin, be sure to check out The Carter House, which is still riddled with centuries-old bullet holes.

Franklin is good for more than just history, as the downtown area is filled with boutique shops, restaurants and festivals happening all summer long. As you might expect from such a historic old town, there are also plenty of ghost tours you can take if you’re in the mood to be spooked!

Day trips are usually all about the final destination, but anyone driving to Leiper’s Fork gets to also experience the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway. Once you get to the actual community of Leiper’s Fork, you’ll be able to visit antique stores, grab snacks and drinks at old-timey markets, and even visit a distillery.

This community has been around since the 1700s, and it’s citizens have done a great job of preserving the history that makes Leiper’s Fork so charming. We recommend waking up early on a Saturday make the 40-minute trip so you can stop by the Leiper’s Fork Farmers Market — held every Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

That’s just a small sampling of the many easy day trips from Nashville you can take this summer! We hope you get the chance to explore these top-rated destinations, and we invite you to swing by Vertis Green Hills when you get back in town! You can schedule a tour online or stop by the leasing office to get an in-person look at our new community of luxury apartments.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST PIZZA IN NASHVILLE

Uncategorized

Are you more of a classic pepperoni person or do you prefer to be bold with pineapple and bacon? Wait, don’t answer, because our guide to the best pizza in Nashville has restaurants that serve every pizza topping you can imagine.

Whether you’re into greasy slices of NY-style pizza or you like to dive into deep dish, you can find a pizza restaurant that will satisfy your craving. If you’ve been eating nothing but hot chicken and barbecue since you’ve been down in Nashville, try switching things up with one of the pizza joints on the list below!

We love a good pizza happy hour, which is why we try to get to Five Points Pizza between 2pm and 6pm on weekdays. For $5, you can get a gigantic slice of pepperoni pizza and a PBR tallboy. That would be a good deal anywhere, but it’s a great deal when you get it at a place that serves some of the best pizza in Nashville!

This East Nashville pizza joint is small, and you’ll have to wait about 20 minutes for a full-size pizza, but you won’t care about either of those things once you take your first bite. This is NY-style pizza at it’s finest, with thin crispy crusts and thick-cut toppings smothered in cheese. The classic pepperoni is a must, but we’ve also heard good things about the basil-prosciutto pizzas and the garlic knots!

You can only get this pizza in five American cities, but Nashville residents love this place so much that we’re getting a second location! According to the Desano Pizza website, they make their neapolitan pizzas by following strict guidelines laid out by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. They use authentic Italian ingredients and cook their pizzas in wood-burning ovens for 90 seconds — every time.

The tried and true process produces some truly incredible pizzas, and you can watch your pizza be made from scratch right in front of you! Desano Pizza has a decent beer selection, but they also allow patrons to bring their own wine to pair with their pizzas if you want to go that route.

The next spot on our list serves some of the best family-made pizza Nashville has to offer. Joey’s House of Pizza is run by a tight-knit family that’s constantly barking orders, conversing with customers and telling slow moving customers to get out of the way! The pizza itself is thick and piled high with toppings, and you can get two slices with a side and a drink for just 8 bucks.

Located in the Arcade in downtown Nashville, Manny’s House of Pizza recently reopened after extensive renovations that made it far more accommodating for the lunch crowd. It used to be hard to find a seat, but people still flocked here and waited in line for the NY-style pizza. You know a NY-style pizza joint is going to be good when your pizza comes out on a paper plate with loads of seasoning on top, and that’s exactly how they do it at Manny’s.

Anybody can make a good pizza once, but it takes a top-notch pizza restaurant to serve amazing pizza time and time again for 20+ years. That’s what they do at Pizza Perfect, with their thick sicilian pies that are surrounded by perfectly seasoned crusts that you’ll want to gobble up after you finish your slice. This place delivers, but they also have a nice open patio that’s popular during Nashville summers.

As you can see, you don’t have to search long before finding some of the best pizza in Nashville. Next time you find yourself chowing down in the Green Hills neighborhood, we invite you to stop by Vertis Green Hills for a quick tour of our luxury apartment community! You can also schedule a tour online ahead of time and one of our leasing agents will be happy to show you around the property.

GET THE INSIDER SCOOP ON NASHVILLE YOGA

Uncategorized

How do you relax after a long week? With the holidays approaching, it’s extra important to find a way to unwind between the stresses of work, holiday planning and travel obligations. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to the best yoga in Nashville — so you can find some inner peace while you navigate the busiest time of year.

The unique thing about Shakti Yoga is that the rooms don’t have mirrors. Instead of focusing on the way you look while you’re posing, you can just focus on getting the pose right and breathing. At Shakti, it really is all about the yoga and nothing else.

Anyone who’s new to Shakti Power Yoga can take advantage of the $5 classes for 30 days deal, which only costs $30. You get to enjoy one of their $5 classes each day for a month, then you can decide if you want to sign on for the full membership. Classes include both hot yoga and regular yoga.

For a more fast-paced yoga experience, check out Inner Light Yoga. The instructors have all the energy in the world, which helps students be motivated to push themselves to their limits. We’re also big fans of the interior decor, which is clean, stylish and modern. All the mats are free to use, too, so you don’t have to carry yours back and forth to class if you don’t want to.

The instructors at Inner Light Yoga focus on letting you be you. Some days they’ll push you with lots of poses, other days they’ll allow you to freestyle or stick with one pose the whole day. This is a great place for people who want personal experiences as well as workout.

At 12 South Yoga, the instructors focus on preventing injuries and paying attention to your body. This Nashville yoga studio is equipped with tons of props that students can use to help them achieve poses they might not otherwise be able to. The instructors are also super knowledgeable, so they’ll let you know what to do if you’re having trouble with a pose or if you’re feeling some pain.

This is the studio to go to if you’re a beginner, or if you’ve had some less-than-awesome experiences with yoga in the past. Yoga doesn’t have to be strenuous, and the instructors at 12 South are there to help you find the poses and movements that work for you.

Consider Kali Yuga Yoga your hipster yoga haven. At just $13 for drop-in classes, prices are low. Plus, the ambiance inside is a far cry from the industrial, clean cut vibe that you see in a lot of other Nashville yoga classes. Kali Yuga Yoga has more of a homey vibe, with drapes over the windows and the smell of incense in the air.

The other thing that sets Kali Yuga Yoga apart from other Nashville studios is the size of the classes. If you go in the morning, you might be in a class with as little as three people. Later in the day, the maximum class size is around 15 people.

Once you’ve tried all the standard yoga classes in town, try moving on to Hot Yoga Plus. This particular studio is located above an IHOP, but don’t let that deter you! The instructors are known for being super creative with their classes, most of which last about an hour.

As you can see, there are plenty of knowledgeable Nashville yoga instructors available for anyone trying to find their new favorite fitness activity. Whether you’re a beginner or a long time yoga student, we think you’ll be able to find a studio that works for you. We’d also love to help you find an apartment that works for you, so feel free to schedule a tour online to check out Vertis Green Hills — a brand new community of luxury apartments in Nashville. Swing by next time you’re in the neighborhood!

5 OF THE MOST POPULAR NASHVILLE PHOTO OPS

Uncategorized

If you’re like most people in Music City, you’re go-to Nashville photo ops involve murals with wings and stars and stripes. There’s nothing wrong with those beautiful backdrops, but we want to help new residents find the lesser-known photo ops that tourists might not know about.

If you’re willing to explore inside cafes and restaurants, Nashville will give you plenty of opportunities to find the perfect backdrop for your next profile pic. Whether you’re into neon lights or rooftop views of downtown, we think you’ll enjoy the popular photo ops on the list below!

If you want to do more than just snap a pic and walk away, we recommend paying a visit to Pinewood Social. You can swim in the pool next to an old Airstream, knock down pins at their retro bowling alley, or play bocce ball on their outdoor patio. This place was designed with Instagram in mind, which means you’ll find plenty of neon signs, string lights and murals to use as backdrops for your pics!

In addition to the activities mentioned above, Pinewood Social is a great spot for breakfast, lunch dinner and cocktails. The menu offers everything from Vietnamese chicken wings to lobster rolls, so bring your appetite and snap a pic of your plate before you dig in!

Few Nashville photo ops offers better views of downtown than the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. You can snap pics of downtown or take pictures of the bridge itself, which is over 110 years old and has a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Cars aren’t allowed on this gorgeous steel structure, so you don’t have to worry about blocking traffic while you find that perfect angle.

There’s a lot of history behind this bridge that rises high over the Cumberland River one mile south of Broadway. It’s one of the longest pedestrian-only bridges in the world, and the first bridge in North America that was made using arched concrete trusses.

Whether you want pics of downtown, the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge or Broadway, you can get them all from the rooftop deck at Acme Feed & Seed. This 3-level bar and restaurant has one of the most beautiful rooftops in Nashville, and it doubles as a live music venue! You’ll probably want to grab a pic and a sip of their famous Mule Kicker cocktail, which is mixed with frozen lemonade and moonshine.

Most cities have botanical gardens in some shape or form. Usually, you’ll see a Japanese Garden, an indoor conservatory, and a few well placed flowers. Cheekwood Estate & Gardens is a little different, in that it’s best photo backdrops can be found next to a massive Georgian mansion.

This property is home to one of the most best photo spots Nashville has to offer — a 9-bedroom, 12-bedroom mansion filled with antique furniture from the 17th century. One of this estate also has an art museum, a sculpture garden, and 13 different garden spaces with filled with fauna.

It’s not every day that you get your morning coffee in a renovated auto shop, but that’s what you can do at the Germantown location of Barista Parlor. Whoever designed this coffee shop paid attention to every aesthetic detail, right down to the coffee mugs adorned with anchors and motorcycles. According to their website, Barista Parlor works with “local Nashville artists, farms, businesses, and bakeries” to create a space that’s 50% cafe, 50% museum and 100% Instagrammable.

It’s not hard to find Nashville photo ops, but the spots listed above are most worthy of your time! We hope you get the chance to check ‘em out, and that you have time to swing by Vertis Green Hills afterwards! Whether you schedule a tour ahead of time or pop in next time you’re in the neighborhood, one of our leasing agents will gladly show you around our new community of luxury apartments in Nashville.
