5 Ways to Thrive During a Nashville Winter

It’s almost time for another Nashville winter, and while you can’t spend your Saturdays on a rooftop patio anymore, this town offers plenty of equally enjoyable indoor activities. The tourism industry dies down during this time of year, which means Nashville residents can hit the town without having to wait in line for hours on end. So, get the jacket out of storage and check out some of these activities to get you through the chilly season.

Dance the winter blues away at The Ryman

Upcoming shows at The Ryman include Ben Folds on November 1st, The Shins on November 15th, and of course, numerous Grand Ole Opry shows. The Grand Ole Opry is a weekly show that features new, local and little-known artists. It’s been happening since 1925, so they must be doing something right.

The theatre itself is a piece of country music history, and you can learn all about it on one of the self-guided tours. Be sure to go to an actual show here sometime, however, because this theatre is acoustically perfect.

Get lost in the Country Music Hall of Fame

This museum is anything but stuffy. Once you walk inside (and pay the $20 entrance fee), you’ll immediately begin hearing the country music that has made Nashville so special for so many years. Check out guitars and other instruments that were used by some of country’s biggest stars, and watch videos of rare performances by artists like Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan.

This museum is perfect for anyone who is new to Nashville and wants to get to know the musicians that put this town on the map. It’s not all about the old artists either. The Country Music Hall of Fame covers everything from the first country music song to the 21st century acts that you hear on the radio today.

Keep yourself moving at Climb Nashville

Outdoorsy people have a hard time getting through a Nashville winter, but Climb Nashville makes it a little easier. Few exercises work your muscles as well as climbing, and scaling a 20 foot wall is a lot more enjoyable than lifting heavy weights up and down for an hour. Climb Nashville has two locations — one on each end of town — and both gyms have plenty of climbing options for all skill sets. If you spend your winter climbing over the walls at Climb Nashville, you can spend your summer months doing the same thing outdoors.

Hide from the Nashville winter at the Belcourt Theatre

This awesome local indie theatre just went through extensive renovations, but the beautiful building still manages to retain its classic charm. Nashville film buffs love this place because it shows the films that you can’t find anywhere else. This is the place to go if you’re on the hunt for foreign, independent and classic films.

The nice thing about the Belcourt Theatre is that everyone is there for the same reason; to watch the movie. You won’t have to deal with loud conversations or someone’s phone going off at the Belcourt. Grab a date and go see a film you’ve never heard of next weekend. After all, if there’s one good thing about living through a Nashville winter it’s that you don’t have to feel bad about spending an afternoon in a dark movie theatre.

Warm up with a drink at Tennessee Brew Works

Once you’ve scaled the walls at Climb Nashville and seen every critically-acclaimed film at the Belcourt, kick back and relax with a local beer at Tennessee Brew Works. This hometown brewery is known for having food that rivals any restaurant in town. Plus, you can get a flight of five brews for just $10. We recommend the frog legs, or the hot chicken sandwich for less adventurous eaters.

As you can see, there’s more to Nashville than meets the eye. If you’re making your home in Nashville, come see us at Vertis Green Hills next time you’re in the area. We’d love to show you some of our brand new amenities, spacious apartments and downtown views. Feel free to give us a call or go online to schedule a tour of our community today.
